"Okay, okay. Hold your horses." Jezzie jogged down the stairs. Logan must've forgotten something.

More harsh banging. "Damn it Logan, I'm coming. Give me a sec." She dragged open the door, but it wasn't Logan. "Charlotte? What's the matter?"

"Oh my God Jezzie I need you."

"Charlotte, honey, what's wrong? What happened? Is Adam okay?"

Charlotte came in and wrapped her arms around her. "It's just so awful. I left."

Jezzie pinned her with a gaze. "Sweetie. Tell me what happened," she asked as she mentally prepared to go into battle with Adam.

"You don't understand, Jez".

"Okay. Help me understand. I'll put on some tea. Then we’ll talk about if we’ll need a body bag or dispense with all that and use lye instead."

In fifteen minutes, Jezzie had made two cups of steaming chamomile tea and parked Charlotte at the bar island. "Okay, let me know what's going on. Help me understand."

"I just thought he would be different. It's like we talked about. But this is hard. All we've been doing is fighting since the day I had to leave for Germany. He's acting really jealous after Vegas."

Jezzie tugged on her earlobe. "Well, what are you guys fighting about?"

"He thinks I've been cheating. He thinks there is too much paparazzi. That all I care about is publicity."

Jezzie swallowed hard. "And what do you think?"

"He's wrong, of course. I need the paparazzi for my career."

"I can see his point in some ways."

Charlotte's brows snapped down. "You're taking his side?"

"No, sweetie. But even you have to admit, the press is getting out of hand."

Charlotte sniffed. "You're just saying that because you still think you don’t need them. You’ll see. You’ll rely on them as much as I do."

"Charlotte, don't be like that." Jezzie gritted her teeth but kept silent on the topic. "Did you try to talk to Adam?"

"He won't listen. He's so over it."

Jezzie chewed on her bottom lip. What did she say here? That she knew Adam had a point? That she knew Charlotte courted the crazy? That being seen was more important to Charlotte than how the attention made other people feel?

Jezzie said, "Charlotte, maybe the pap lifestyle isn't what he's looking for. It's hard having cameras in on everything."

"Well, I'm not you. I don't fit a niche. I need the publicity. I need to feed the love and attention.”

Jezzie sighed. "Well, honey, you need to figure out what's more important."

Charlotte shook her head. "I don't think this is going to work, Jez."

"Oh come on, Charlotte. You gotta give it a shot. You gotta give him a real chance, otherwise what's the point? You have to consider what a sustainable future looks like.”

Charlotte's brows snapped down. "Why are you taking his side?"

Jezzie held up her hands. "Woah, I'm not taking anyone's side. I'm just trying to talk you through this because I remember when you said that you loved him and he was the only person you ever wanted to be with. I remember that and so I want you to also remember that you're upset right now.
